June 30th 365 challenge

6/30/11

TOMATOES :)  The whole reason for having a garden.  Kind of.  We love tomatoes.... or at least some of us do.

June 29th 365 challenge

6/29/11

Yesterday we took a trip down to Lee's Summit to see some friends (Kristy and family) from California... .  We also got to see her sister (Lindy) and family before we had to take off to get Tom from work.

Here's Liberty playing in their backyard.  I think she liked the absence of a large, steep hill.

We have jalapeƱos!

June 26th 365 challenge

I love to see the temple!  I'm going there someday.  I am so glad to have been married in the temple for time and all eternity and to share this with my best friend and husband, Tom.  I am so thankful that we've been able to return to the temple each year, even if it hasn't been as often as we'd like.  This will change with one less than 10 minutes away!
Emilie will be 12 around when the temple is completed, and she is so excited to be able to go to the dedication as well.  Michael and Benjamin just went on a temple trip to do baptisms last Saturday and came back happy and recharged.  Tom and I will be able to go this Saturday.  All the kids love to see our temple and have enjoyed watching it being built, even though at first Christopher thought ANY crane meant there was a temple being built.  Nathanael is 8 so he will be able to attend the dedication along with Tom, myself, Michael, Benjamin, and Emilie, but we'll have to find a babysitter for our youngest 4.  This has been and will be an amazing experience for my whole family.

Kansas City Missouri temple- June 26th, 2011

Not a lot new this week, just beautiful summer skies and a few new windows on the street side of the temple.  Beautiful!

You can't make this stuff up.

You can't make this stuff up. Nathanael just said to me, when I have a daughter, IF I have a daughter, I am going to name her Arctica. That way, when she's an Aunt, we can say, let's go visit Aunt Arctica. And they will say, huh? and we'll say, we mean your Aunt. OH, they'll say.

June 21st 365 challenge

6/21/11
Family Home Evening, just a day late due to unforeseen troubles on Monday.  I just liked this picture, even if it's just 6 out of 8 kids and 6 out of 10 of us, because it shows everyone happy and enjoying this time together.  It also shows a bit of our family personalities... including Timothy still singing, after the song ended, and Nathanael being goofy and Benjamin hiding and Samuel just happy to be there.  And Michael keeping an eye on things and Liberty getting into trouble.  Life :)

Overheard again...

Christopher (3) and Timothy (4) playing hide and seek...

Christopher...

"One... Two... Three... Four... fivesixseven HERE MY COME!"

"MY FOUND YOU!  Now my gonna hide."  Over and over again :)

Someday soon he'll learn to say "I" instead of "my" but I can just sit and enjoy his 3 year old excitement sounding like a 3 year old for just a little bit longer.

Kansas City Missouri temple- June 19th, 2011

Some pictures of the grounds south of the temple (ponds, paths, etc.) and the temple this week.  Beautiful.  The newest thing I can see is the one section of fence put up, with preparations for more, facing the street on the west side of the temple.  Enjoy!

June 20th 365 challenge

Awww, wook.  It's a widdle baby gween pepper.  (pblllt)  Ok.  Yes, it's a little green pepper starting to grow!  Sooo exciting to see this and share with the kids.  It's been a few years since we've been able to have a garden.  All of the things (except one!) we've planted from seeds are growing now, and the tomatoes and green pepper plants have flowers and even this green pepper starting!  Emilie's bean plants are getting flower buds, too.  The pumpkins are starting bigger leaves, the watermelon plants have started to sprout, the cukes are getting bigger leaves, the okra (yes, okra) are getting taller, and our bean plants have a nice little row going.  Love this!  Our garden will be bigger next year.  Our chore for today is putting the tomatoes in cages!

June 19th 365 challenge

He asked for it.

No, not the book.  He didn't even know there was another Foo series.  The picture of him because he didn't let me get a picture of his handsome face.  Sure, I'm biased, but that doesn't mean he isn't handsome.  (and Samuel is handsome, too.)  Happy Father's Day to my husband, and my dad, and my father in law, and all the other great dads I know, and the guys I know who WILL be great dads!

Samuel is looking at the flowers on the tomato plants.  They need their cages pretty soon!  So exciting.

6/16/11

Baby pumpkin plants!  Yesterday morning we went to check on our garden and found this!  Both hills had sprouts, and now we also have okra, beans, and cucumbers.  I think we have watermelon as of today, too.  Just one, though.  This year's garden is small.  Just to get us started in Missouri.  Must be nice when the little plants can get the moisture out of the air as well as from the ground!  I feel like I'm taking a drink walking out to the garden!

June 15th 365 challenge

6/15/11

On top of everything else going on this week, Nathanael is in the middle of his first year at Cub Scout Day Camp.  It is at the Platte County Fairgrounds, which are fairly large but also free of shade or a pool like we were used to in Amarillo, using a wonderful local Boy Scout camp.  That said, it has been a great week for him (and his dad) and he's loving it.  He's been able to build things, shoot bb guns, learn archery, use a slingshot, shoot off rockets, play kickball, and tomorrow he gets to be soaked by a firehose... eh?

June 13th 365 challenge

6/13/11

Someone is very proud of himself.  Today's score is (first day) successes: 20  misses: 5.  We'll try again tomorrow.  He actually caught on fairly quickly compared to some of my other kiddos.  He woke up not wanting to do this... (I've been telling him for a few days that today was the day... no more diapers!) but came around quickly.  We do try when they ask, but when I know they're ready, and they know they're ready, we just jump in with both feet and get it over with in a day or so.  Back to one in diapers :)

This is boy #6 and child #7 we've potty trained (ok, I mean, "I've" potty trained).  I think we do ok at it, overall.  Noone is stressed out, it's over quickly, and the kids are pretty excited to be big kids when we're 'done'.

My mom said she loved everything about parenting other than potty training and drivers training.  Later this year, we'll get to take a peek at that second one...  YIKES.

June 12th 365 challenge

6/12/11

Liberty will only keep anything in her hair for about 30 seconds.  And that's if you are telling her she is pretty and that her hair is pretty and how fun it is to dress up and do things with her hair.  If it takes you 30 seconds to say all that, it MIGHT still be in at that point.

And, I have a picture of Emilie in this dress.  More than one, apparently, because this isn't the one I was thinking of :)

(when her cousin Holly was a baby... Emilie was 2 here.)

6/10/11

One of several pictures of our family number at the ward talent show, a song called "Pots and Pans" by Sandra Boynton on her Dog Train album.  The kids really got into it, especially once the crowd did, too.  :)  (Tom joined in, too, here he is working the CD player)

June 9th 365 challenge

6/9/11

I took pictures of all the kids today just doing whatever they were doing.  This is what Michael was doing. I think it involved schoolwork.  :)  Either that or he is on facebook or preparing to write his book.

June 6th 365 challenge

6/6/11

She was standing in this perfect little girly pose with the clothes Emilie picked out for her, including the bow... which came off VERY soon after this picture... and in the blink of an eye, she was running at me :)  To see the picture on the back of the digital camera, of course, even though it hadn't been taken when she started running.  Silly girl!  She was talking all the way over to me, too.

Kansas City Missouri temple- June 5th, 2011

The temple and stake center today.  So much getting done.  No, not as obvious as the temple and stake center growing a spire overnight, but still very exciting to see week to week.  Landscaping, brickwork, windows, everything getting done.  Next spring is coming closer all the time!

June 5th 365 challenge

6/5/11

I finally took my screaming little girl out to the car after nearly 3 hours of church to wait for the rest of our family.  There was about 5 minutes left of church.  And this is what I got.

Sigh.  That's our princess.
