365 Joys- September 22nd 2015

9/22/15

Juliana caught the cold, and you can tell because she fell asleep in the middle of the day again.

And Samuel, amazingly enough, has finished the Book of Mormon from Michael's challenge a week ago.

I made this for discussion I was in.

GEDC0540 Scripture charts for Michael's challenge to our family to read the whole Book of Mormon before he leaves on his mission... since he hasn't done his papers yet, that's a while, but it sure got everyone reading!

Scripture reading kids!

365 Joys- July 26th 2015

7/26/15

Some of the awesome missionaries who serve in our ward.

I help with the missionary meal calendar in our ward, and help keep them eating meals with members and investigators.  (no, not a calling, just something I seem to take over when no one is doing it.)

I've done this in many wards... I think when I started, I looked at all my little boys and thought, well, if I feed these boys, somebody will feed mine when they are serving the Lord on their missions.

Now I'm thinking even closer, as Michael gets older and making choices leading to his mission, friends have kids on missions, and my kids have friends on missions, I see how awesome it is to see the people in their missions share pictures and stories of their sons and daughters with the mothers and fathers and hope that will happen with our missionaries, too.

So I'm making more of an effort to take pictures of these great kids, and send those pictures home to families who want to see their missionaries.

Just be patient with me.  It's a long time from now that my youngest child will return from her mission, if she goes.  And NOT so long before my first will leave.  Lots of thoughts.

365 Joys- July 10th 2015

7/10/15

Today we sent off two missionaries... on two "Mini Missions" for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  They got to do everything the missionaries did, including wake up, study, teach, pray, everything, keeping the same schedule and staying with the missionaries for three days.  It was only going to be Michael but they opened it up to 15 year olds a few days before the dates.  Kudos to these two for rearranging works schedules and being willing to do this just hours before an early morning Youth Conference trip to Nauvoo!!!

The real thing will come soon enough.

 Michael went to Independence, Missouri.

Emilie went to New Mark, Missouri.  She actually went to church in our building and we saw her.

Yes, those are pretty awesome scriptures...

And yes, they're heavy.

He's so thrilled to be carrying his scriptures in my old scripture case.

Yay Christopher!

Liberty was all ready for scripture study and I snapped a picture.

Love my girls and their beautiful smiles!

(I love my boys too but that's two days in a row where my daughters are smiling so big!)

1/5/15

My younger readers didn't have their own sets of scriptures yet (they each had a Book of Mormon for daily study but not anything else...)  so when there was a sale on pocket sized sets of scriptures, we bought enough for them each to have all of them!  We believe in the Bible alongside the Book of Mormon as testaments of Jesus Christ.  We also have a book of revelations called the Doctrine and Covenants.  They are so thrilled to have their own!  (and no, Jules isn't reading yet but she was excited, too.)  These pocket sized books are a set of 4, including the Book of Mormon, the New Testament, the Old Testament, and a Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.
They're all ready for all family scripture studies!

We just studied the Old Testament as a family last year, and this year we are studying the New Testament.

It brings me joy that my children want to study the scriptures as a family.

The fun that is scripture reading time at our house.  haha!  A little chaotic... but we read!  Together!  Sometime I'll write a blog post about how our scripture reading helps our children learn to read... sometimes without any other help or materials at all!
