We have another teenager!

Another fall, another round of birthdays coming up... (1 October, 3 in November, 1 December, 1 January, 2 March, 2 April with another expected that month... yikes!)  (the only one NOT in that run of birthdays was Joseph, and he's not really caring about birthdays these days... he was July!)

Benjamin turned 13 yesterday, so we have another teenager in the house.  Nothing wrong with that, only he's frustrated with being short, just like Michael was, and I think he might be tired of following in Michael's footsteps.  He loved Scout Camp this summer, and is excited to go again next year.  He's working on advancements which has been difficult being in 3 different places since he's turned 11!

He is very responsible, and probably does more chores than he needs to be doing but he is always willing to help.  We try and recognize this and reward him accordingly.  However, this is sometimes difficult as he also has more of a temper than some of the rest of his family... and generally that gets attention, too.  He is a joy to be around (most of the time!) and makes friends easily.  He is the young man that goes around our church before it starts and shakes people's hands.

He is the Deacon class president at church.  For school (we homeschool) he is in 7th grade and progressing well.  He's learning Latin, typing, Algebra 1, Earth Science, and other things as we go.  He reads anything he can get his hands on but right now favorites are Leven Thumps, Artemis Fowl, Pillage, Fablehaven, Redwall, Captain Bluebear, the Inheritance Cycle, Harry Potter, and the Series of Unfortunate Events.  He is a voracious reader like his parents.  He's always looking for something else to read.  He sounds like his parents.

He is developing a new talent for playing the piano and we enjoy listening to him play.  He doesn't like singing, having a sister close in age, or cleaning his room.  We're getting there.  We love having Benjamin in our family, and wish everyone could meet him someday, but as we aren't in everyone's neighborhood, posts like this may have to do.
